called Reciprocation ,designed by Barbara

Brown in 1962. It has simple geometric

shapes of circles and squares , it would

probably be used for some sort of home

furniture .

                            James Rosen Quist ,carrying on from abstract expressionist

                            this movement focuses on everyday life objects and people

                            making the paintings appear commercial .

been printed on to.
the shape, size and colour
of the piece makes it
interesting .

 

 

This is a painting by Reynolds, who is an abstract painter and has made his reputation as a landscape painter in the 60's . The painter gets his influences from impressionists such as Paul Klee and  Elanie kooning . I like this painting because of the overlapping geometric shapes.as well as the method used to make this painting look 3D. The abstract movement emerged around the 1950's and was related to world war two which left the artist reflecting their feeling through these paintings , almost as a way to rebel. Some of the characteristics of this movement were :swearing ,flicking paint on a canvas and fast brush strokes.

Three Subculture Designers

Danielle Scutt

Danielle Scutt is a British designer whose work expresses the idea of Masculine and Femininity .She began her success by graduating from Central Saint Martin’s University. In 2005 she revealed her sophisticated ready to wear clothing line at London’s Fashion week. She also launched another stunning collection in spring 2008.
                                                                                             
                                   

2008 Collection

One of my favourite pieces in her 2008 collection is the black and white zebra printed dress with a gold belt in the centre. The shape of the dress reminds me of a flower opening up. It’s girly, flirty! The exposition of the shoulders and length of the garment gives it a sexy yet sophisticated look. However the belt gives it a gladiator appearance.

Scutt is well known for her bold and ferocious design which traps the influences from the 80’s fashion. Her 2008 collection shows a huge link of how Danielle Scutt has taken certain aspects from the 80’s trend such as: the belted nipped in waist, pencil skirts and Voluminous dresses and incorporated it in her collections.

Now looking at Danielle Scutt’s 2012 collection it is a big contrast to her 2008 one. This collection seems to have a more modern aspects looking at casual wear verses smart wear.

2012 Collection 

This is one of her pieces from her 2012 collection which I found quite fascinating, the idea of making a female transform into a thug figure like is great! She makes the women appear strong and almost like the gangster 50 cent on the left .

 

Jeremy Scott

The American fashion designer Jeremy Scott was born in 1974 Kansas City Missouri. He began to build his career by going to Paris for a few years to establish his name then returned to the US. His Vibrant creations are now worn by Celebrities such as: Kanye West, Lindsay Lohan, Nicky Minaj, Christina Aguilera and even Madonna!

His first Runway was debuted in October 1997; this collection carried the influences of pop culture such as The Flintstones, Mickey the mouse and fast food icons. Scott is well known for his over the top and outrageous, comical, bold funky designs.  

2011 Collection

 

This is an image from his 2011 Fall/Winter collection. I find the dress on the right quirky; the fact the model is wear a garment that resembles a coke bottle saying “enjoy God” is quite humorous and provocative: using the body as a brand or commercial. However I feel that all the garments have a futuristic appeal due to the way Scott designed them: the clashing colours, and use of materials.

2013 Collection

These are from Scott’s  2013 Spring/summer collection inspired were by the Middle East; Scott titled his show at London Fashion week as “Arab Spring”. The colour pallet for this collection is mainly gold, black and teal.

I admire this collection as Scott pushes boundaries by creating these provoking garments. Normally in Countries like the Middle East not a lot of skin is shown and women are covered from head to toe. But with Scott’s collection he has taken the idea of the veil yet blowing things out of proportion by making garments where a lot of flesh is show using see-through materials. He adds a twist to his collection by making all the models wear snap backs which brings in an aspect of a cool, modern hip hop culture.

  I like Jeremy Scott because his work is very different from the rest he has a very innovative way of putting things together that you wouldn’t normally expect ,this idea of juxtaposing really works with the designs he creates. His a very unique and thinks out of the box when producing his work.

 Scott is a good link to my subculture because I like clothing that’s quite bold, vibrant and playful . The designer gets some of his influences from the 80’s silhouettes’ and the 90’s bold prints which is one of the main inspiration of my subculture. 

                      Katie Eary

 Katie Eary is a 29 years old British designer who is well known for her bold, graphical menswear designs. The designer studied at the Royal College of Art in 2008.Her work is seen as street couture a mixture of classical tailoring with an edgy high street twist. She had chosen to focus on menswear to differentiate from others and to challenge her creativity.

 In 2011 her talent was spotted by the famous rapper Kanye West  who immediately felt very fascinated with her pieces and decided to contact her, ever since Katie Eary has been designing for even more big rappers such as A$AP ,2 chains and Tinnie Tempah .

2013 Autumn /Winter Collection

These are some of her pieces for her 2013 autumn and winter collection whish has been inspired by Vampires, life and death. When coming up with an idea Eary looks at books and films for inspiration focusing on creating a certain sort of character in her mind.  I really like her colour pallet for this collection a combination of royal blues, pink fuchsia and blood red.

 

  

2014 Spring /Summer Collection

For Katie Eary’s 2014 collection she has taken her inspiration from street wear (skaters) and Africa with the warm vibrant colours she uses in these pieces as well as her over the top leopard prints showing some of the models holding skate boards. I find the garment one the right with the flamingo print quite cool and quirky.

 

 

Katie Eary is a link to my subculture as she mixes the old with the new creating fun modern garments, this is similar to the retro trend which can sometimes be bold and over the top .I also like the fact she plays around and experiments by using soft colours on the menswear garment she produces which is something that is not mostly seen.
